Hubcity Landscaping was started by Jake Morrison, a Lubbock native who spent over 12 years on landscape crews across the South Plains before going out on his own. Jake grew up on the west side of Lubbock and learned early that West Texas soil does not behave like anywhere else. Pullman clay loam expands when wet and contracts when dry. Caliche hardpan sits beneath most properties at depths between 6 and 36 inches. You cannot pretend these facts away. You have to engineer around them.
That is the philosophy behind Hubcity. Every project starts with a soil probe. Every quote is itemized in writing. Every sod installation ends with a physical watering schedule handed to the homeowner before the crew leaves the property. And we come back at 30 days to check root depth with our own hands.
What We Do
Sod Installation — Bermuda, Zoysia, and Buffalo grass installed on properly prepped clay soil with caliche breakup where needed. We water within 30 minutes of the last roll and hand you the week-by-week watering schedule before we leave.
Xeriscaping — Native West Texas plants, drip irrigation, and rock coverage built for Lubbock’s 18-inch annual rainfall. We provide HOA documentation on every project and a formal written plant recommendation before any work begins.
Hardscaping — Patios, retaining walls, pergolas, fire pits, and outdoor kitchens engineered for clay soil movement and Lubbock’s temperature range from minus 10 to 115 degrees F. We pull permits when required and coordinate licensed subcontractors for gas and electrical connections.
Artificial Turf Installation — Pet-friendly and residential turf options compliant with Texas HB 517 HOA regulations. Zero outdoor water use after installation. Ideal for Lubbock properties under permanent Stage 1 water restrictions.
Why We Do Not Use Generic Quotes
A single-number phone quote tells you nothing useful. It does not tell you what is included. It does not tell you what the soil under your yard will cost to prep. It does not tell you whether we found caliche 8 inches down or 30 inches down. Every Hubcity Landscaping quote is an itemized written document with every cost on its own line: sod material and variety named, old sod removal, soil amendment, caliche breakup with depth noted, installation labor, first watering, and any specialty work. You see exactly what you are paying for before you sign anything.
Who We Serve
We serve homeowners, property managers, HOA boards, and commercial property owners across Lubbock TX and surrounding communities. We cover all Lubbock zip codes from 79401 through 79424, Wolfforth in the Frenship ISD corridor, and Shallowater north of Loop 289. South Lubbock zip codes 79423 and 79424 are our highest-volume area — new construction there requires the most soil prep, with builder fill that has essentially zero organic matter and caliche hardpan closer to the surface than anywhere else in the city.
